Food Donations
Hunger is one of the leading side effects of poverty in the world today. But being hungry is not just a discomfort; it is a way of life and it can have hazardous side effects. For example, if you do not get enough food, your body will be malnourished and become susceptible to becoming sick and catching diseases such as malaria and pneumonia, which leaves your body open to lose the few nutrients that it has. For a lot of us, going hungry does not pose a threat, but there are people that deal with the possibility of hunger, or the effects of hunger, on a daily basis. However, there are ways to help these people. Being less wasteful is the easiest way to help; buy only what you need and make sure to use all of it instead of over buying and having to throw out food you do not eat or the extra that ends up going bad. Another way is to give food to donation places who can send it to the people who need it. When sending food that is already prepared, you should make sure to package it separately and securely close the container to avoid spilling the contents. You should also make sure that if the food is chilled, it should be at forty degrees and if it is frozen, it should be at zero degrees. When sending sandwiches, they should be at forty degrees or less and wrapped tight in clear plastic wrap or foil. As for the most common food that is donated, non-perishable items, they should be securely closed and packaged separately as well as kept in a cool and dry area. No food of any kind will be permitted if they are damaged, punctured, have been opened, or if you send two different types of food packaged together in the same container.
