Food and Hunger Statistics
The current population in the world today is continuously growing. Right now, there are close to seven billion people living on earth at this moment. Out of those seven billion people, over one billion of them are undernourished, even though there are even more people, almost twelve hundred million, who are overweight. Out of those twelve hundred million who are overweight, there are over three hundred million of them who are obese. Even though we have so many people who are well above the normal weight that they are supposed to be, there are still almost seven million people who have died of hunger this year; just today, there have been over twenty-one thousand. Calculated in United States money currency, there has been almost two hundred million dollars spent on obesity related diseases just today. As for food, there has been almost ninety million dollars spent on food today that was later tossed out, which equals close to one million tons of food that was wasted today. In addition to what we spend daily on food for ourselves, there has been over thirty five million dollars spent today on food for animals and pet; eighty percent of our total harvested corn, grains, and soy beans have been fed to animals. Then, there are all of the malnourished children. Seventy eight percent of these malnourished children live in countries with food surpluses. One of the key ways to help reduce the amount of food wasted, and possibly help some of the malnourished children in the world today, is to use the food we buy and try our best not to waste it. Cut back on the amount of food we spend money on and make sure to only buy what we need, and then actually use it rather than wasting it; there people somewhere in the world who could use it.
